Designer Betsey Johnsons Pink Penthouse

by HOOKEDONHOUSES on JUNE 19, 2008

Fashion designer Betsey Johnson is one of a kind, and so is her NYC penthouse. For one thing, its pink. Very, very pink. According to the MLS, it has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and is on the market for about $2.5 million:

This stylish Gold Coast penthouse duplex loft is the New York residence of a famed fashion designer whose underlying respect for classics always has an irreverent edge and sense of fun A lavishly presented confection of fifties Hollywood glamour trimmed in lace, velvet, and gold tassels, beneath the signature pink paint and fabulously frou-frou furnishings is a home with unique character and great bones.

As I was searching for more information about Betsey Johnson for this post, I discovered that she owns a villa in a Mexican fishing village, too, that is now available to rent. She decorated the villa in her inimitable style and dubbed it Betseyville.

Flipping Out: Jeff Lewis Puts Valley Oak House on Market

by HOOKEDONHOUSES on AUGUST 31, 2010

Are you watching Bravos popular reality series Flipping Out? The show is now in its 4th season, and Ive been watching since the beginning. For me it brings backnightmares memories of working as an assistant to a brilliant but demanding designer myself. Jeff Lewis has definitely mellowed out on the show over the years, though. (Makes me wonder if my designer has, too? For the sake of whoever is working for her now, lets hope!)

Jeff lives and works from a beautiful house he renovated in Los Angeles called Valley Oak. Hes been trying to sell it off and on since the reno was finished, and its back on the market for $2.495 million. Lets take a look!

House Beautifuls Kitchen of the Year was designed by Lewis. You can see the photos of ithere.

Jeffs Office:

Jeff says he hasnt seen former BFF and business partner Ryan Brown since the Fall of 09 when they had a very ugly and public falling out on the show. I took a poll at the time to see who you were siding with in the feud, and you can see the (surprising to me) resultshere.

Oh, and you can see photos of Ryan Browns house, tooI posted them here.

Teri Garrs California Cottage

by HOOKEDONHOUSES on AUGUST 12, 2008

Actress Teri Garrs charming California cottage has 2 bedrooms, 3 baths. She just sold it for an undisclosed amount, but it was on the market for $3.99 million. According to the listing:

Beyond the gates and gardens lies an irresistibly charming California cottage. Dramatic and private, this light filled home originally built in 1924 is in the heart of Brentwood Park. There are two bedroom suites, the master is glorious and fills the entire second floor. There is a cozy office, warm and wonderful living room and inviting kitchen. Several sets of French doors open to the rear garden with pool/spa + guest house above the garage.

Garr began her career as a dancer, becoming a regular performer on the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. Her first big film role was as Inga, the beautiful assistant in Young Frankenstein (with Gene Wilder):

She then had some career-making roles in movies like Mr. Mom, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Oh, God!

She snagged an Oscar nom for best supporting actress in Tootsie as the people-pleasing actress Sandy (with Dustin Hoffman) in Tootsie.

When I was in college, everyone used to gather on weeknights in the dormitory lounge to watch Letterman, and Garr was a frequentand very funnyguest.

Big Time Listings broke the story that Teri Garr was selling her Brentwood house, explaining:

The enormously likable Garr, who sadly suffered a brain aneurysm in 2006 and also in 2002 had announced that she suffers from multiple sclerosis, told the Daily News of Los Angeles in an article that ran on April 21, 2008 that the other day, a guy came to fix my computer, and I told him, Ive got good news and bad news. The bad news is Ive got to sell my house because I cant work. The good news is Im walking. He said, I think the good news is much better than the bad news. I have to look at it that way.

In October 2002, Garr went public with her MS on Larry King, saying, Im telling my story for the first time, so I can help people. I can help people know they arent alone, and tell them there are reasons to be optimistic because today treatment options are available.

She has become a leading advocate in raising awareness for MS and the latest treatments for the disease and a National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Samanthas Malibu Beach House from Sex and the City

by HOOKEDONHOUSES on FEBRUARY 20, 2011

Remember the contemporary beach house in Malibu that Samantha (Kim Cattrall) lived in for the first Sex and the City movie? It was pretty fabulous, with glass balconies and ocean views. I showed you a little of it in my post about the SatC sets.

Well, now you can live there yourself! Thats right, you can rent this house for $75,000 a month for a short-term lease, or a more budget-friendly price of $55,000 if you plan to stay awhile.

In this shot from the movie, Samantha and her live-in boyfriend Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis) make themselves at home:

Heres how the house looks in the listing, with what appears to be the same furniture that Samantha used:

When the movie filmed in 08, the house was on the market for $17 million, but the price was later dropped to $14.5 million. (More photos and info on Iamnotastalker.)

The house has three levels and theyre almost entirely glass, which makes for great views everywhere you look:

More listing photos:

The house has 5 bedrooms, 6 baths, and 4 decks.

This bathroom is pretty amazing:
