Thanks for a Great Safety Year, 2010!

I'd like to know who this guy's publicist is.  Apparently the owner of the Gulf of Mexico oil rig that exploded last year, killing 11 workers and leading to what has been called the worst oil spill ever, said today that calling 2010 its "best year" in safety "may have been insensitive."  Hmmm, ya think?? So, despite the fact that this oil rig explosion was the worst of its kind EVER to happen, all the big wigs got substantial cash bonuses because they had a stellar safety year. How in the HELL is that even possible?

The article, via CNN, says "notwithstanding the tragic loss of life in the Gulf of Mexico, we (Transocean Ltd.) achieved an exemplary statistical safety record as measured by our total recordable incident rate and total potential severity rate," the statement reads. "As measured by these standards, we recorded the best year in safety performance in our company's history."

That includes a $200,000 salary increase for Transocean President and Chief Executive Officer Steven L. Newman, whose base salary will increase from $900,000 to $1.1 million, the report said. Newman's bonus was $374,062 and he also has a $5.4 million long-term compensation package the company awarded him upon his appointment as CEO in March 2010. Awesome.

Wow. This is crazy mind blowing shit. Definitely check out the comments beneath the article if you want to be even more infuriated / have a good laugh.
