Steven Gerrard's mansion has pool, kids' playground, putting green and two-storey gym

Football is his passion and his pay cheque. So you'd think that Steven Gerrard would live somewhere with a decent patch of grass for a kickabout.
But instead, his back garden looks like this. The England midfielder and Liverpool captain, 28, has just spent 15 months cramming the area behind his house with all the luxuries his wife and children might need.
As well as the swimming pool, there's a two-storey gym with a solarium to ensure wife Alex Curran, 25, has a year-round tan.

Overboard: Steven Gerrard and wife Alex Curran's one-acre plot is home to a two-storey leisure centre complete with solarium and plunge pool, a sauna, a putting green and children's playground
Off one side of the gym is a kitchenette with showers and changing rooms, a plunge pool, jacuzzi and sauna.

The gym  features eight fitness machines including recumbent bike, rower and treadmill. At the other end is a small putting green.

Right behind the house there's a bark-covered playground with a pink wendy house, climbing frame, double swing, see-saw and spring-loaded rocking horse to keep children Lily Ella, four, and Lexie, two, occupied.
And in the middle of it all, a patch of turf barely large enough to turn a few cartwheels.
Gerrard's decision to overhaul the grounds triggered outrage among neighbours on the millionaire's row in Merseyside.
One said: 'As much as we hold Mr Gerrard in high esteem as a player we just wish he hadn't felt the need to go so overboard on his garden.
'The rest of us settle for nice lawns and trees and a few flower beds. This guy seems to have built his own playground.'
Gerrard had originally been granted planning permission in October 2007 for the 'detached two-storey building to be used as a garden pavilion and gymnasium with games room'.
Neighbours were infuriated and complained the gym looked like an 'Asda supermarket in a beauty spot'.
But it is believed Gerrard won over planners by offering to instal a living 'sedum roof', which includes grass, moss and other plants and helps cut fuel bills by keeping the building warmer in the winter.
A Liverpool insider said: 'Steve and Alex are obviously very sorry if neighbours have been upset or are inconvenienced by the building work. The last thing they want is for the neighbours to be unhappy. But this will be their dream home for life.'

Under construction: Workmen can be seen completing the kitchenette earlier this year, while the putting green has still not been started. The whole overhaul of the seaside mansion took 15 months

NBA Player Corey Maggette Buys In Newport, California (PHOTOS)

With the NBA lockout going on we are expecting to see some players put their homes on the market but one player is doing some buying instead. The OC Register reported that former Los Angeles Clipper Corey Maggette has picked up a five-bedroom home near the top of Newport Coast, California. Maggette, who is 31, was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats over the summer. He paid $3 million for this home in August. The OC Register points out that the home is located near two Pelican Ridge homes owned by Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

Maggettes new home is on a 13,000 square foot lot in the guard-gated Pelican Heights area and has canyon views. Other features include hardwood and limestone flooring, a gourmet kitchen, Venetian plaster walls, beamed and sea grass ceilings and more. There is a formal dining room and an office as well as a large master suite with a sitting area. The French doors open to a patio, yard and a pavilion with built-in barbecue and outdoor fireplace.

Baseball Player Reggie Sanders Selling in Arizona (PHOTOS)

Reggie Sanders, one of the most consistent baseball players of the late 90s and early 2000s, has listed his Scottsdale, AZ house for $2,195,000.

Coming in at just under 8,000 square feet, the 6 bed, 7 bath home was built in 1999 and covers just under an acre of land. Sanders and his wife purchased the home in December, 2002 for $1,395,000 and look to be making a healthy return on their investment.

Along with a swimming pool (an Arizona necessity), spa and waterfall in the backyard, the Spanish-style home includes a master chef kitchen, a bonus room with a wet bar, and a den with built-in cherry wood cabinets. Located on a cul-de-sac in a gated community, the home also features a split floor plan that separates the family and guest wings as well as ornate columns and designs throughout the house.

After making it to The Show in 1991 with the Cincinnati Reds, Sanders went on to have a very successful Major League Baseball career that spanned 17 seasons with eight different teams. He was selected to the National League All-Star team in 1995 and was a member of six playoff teams, including a World Series championship in 2001 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Other career highlights for the right fielder include being the fifth player to hit 300 home runs and steal 300 bases over the course of his career as well as being the only player to hit at least 20 homers in a season for six different teams.
