Dolly Partons Childhood Home in Tennessee

by HOOKEDONHOUSES on MARCH 28, 2008
I still close my eyes and go homeI can always draw from that.-Dolly Parton~

I just got home from my trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and thought youd like to see the souvenir I brought back for you. You didnt think Id come back empty handed, did you?

We went to Dollywood yesterday, and one of my favorite things in the park was the replica ofDolly Partons childhood home constructed by her mother and brother. I was amazed to see how Dolly and her 10 brothers and sisters lived in this tiny, one-room cabin in the Smoky Mountains. She has always described her family as dirt poor, and thats no exaggeration. Its all the more remarkable when you think about how far shes come since then.-

~

The humble hearth (the interiors were protected by a glass wall, but my camera did its best to capture them clearly):

I was fascinated by the small details, like the tin of tobacco and Johnsons Baby Powder on the shelves:

This was the only bed in the place. I was stumped as to where the 11 children slept. There wasnt even enough floor space for them all! I mean, it was even smaller than the Spite House.

The walls were wallpapered with pages from old newspapers and magazines. Here is the kitchen corner with the stove:

This was part of the kitchen corner and appeared to be a sort of pantry:

The kitchen table with seating for 6. Where did the other 7 family members sit? Did they have to eat in shifts?

The front porch (maybe this is where some of them slept?):

One of my favorite Dolly quotes: Im not going to limit myself just because people wont accept the fact that I can do something else.

Five Fun Facts About Dolly Parton:
Shes Miley Cyruss godmother and plays Aunt Dolly on the popular Disney show Hannah Montana. (My 13-year old told me this!)
Partons investment in Pigeon Forge, with enterprises like Dollywood and Dixie Stampedehas revitalized the area and employs thousands.
Shes known as the Iron Butterfly. She uses butterflies as her logos, which represent beauty and freedom to her.
Twenty-six of Partons songs have hit #1 on the Billboard country charts, a record for a female artist.
Imagination Library is her literacy program that mails a book a month to children from the time theyre born until they turn 5. Although it began in her hometown of Sevier County, it now reaches children across the U.S. We talked to one Dollywood employee who told us that every time her daughter gets a book in the mail, she says, Aunt Dolly loves me!

Dolly Partons first mainstream country album in 18 years is now in stores (Backwoods Barbie). You can learn more about what shes up to at the popular fan site DollyOnline.

9/10 UPDATE: These photos were featured on The Nate Berkus Show when Dolly made an appearance on it. You can read all about it here.

LeAnn Rimes $7.45 Million Home in Tennessee

by HOOKEDONHOUSES on JULY 22, 2009

The Grammy-winning country singer LeAnn Rimes and her husband Dean Sheremet have put their house on the market for $7.45 million. The 13,380-square-foot home sits outside Nashville on 5.22 gated acres:

According to an article in the Tennessean, LeAnn decorated this house herself, using lots of white on white for a peaceful, Zen vibe. The living room features 5-inch plank, hand-distressed wood floors:

The house has 6 bedrooms and 7.5 baths. Its still practically new, having been completed in 2008.

The house sits on a small mountain in the Franklin subdivision of Avalon.

LeAnn and her husband, Dean Sheremet, have been married for seven years:

People magazine reports that Rimes decision to sell has nothing to do with reports that shehad an affair with her Lifetime TV-movie co-star Eddie Cibrian. According to a friend of the country singer:

LeAnn and Dean decided to put their home on the market because shes been spending more time in L.A. [where the couple also have a home] and New York. Shes been receiving more offers in the film, TV and theater worlds, so they want to have a footprint in all three cities.

Today Us Magazine reports that Eddie Cibrians wife and the mother of their two young children has left him. In her statement, Brandi Glanville said, Eddie and LeAnn deserve each other. I dont think she meant that as a compliment.

Rimes is currently recording a new country album, which is due out this fall. (Real estate photos via the Real Estalker.)

Nicole Kidman & Keith Urbans Beverly Hills Home

by HOOKEDONHOUSES on DECEMBER 3, 2008
Celebrity couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban purchased this contemporary $4.7 million home in Beverly Hills with 5 bedrooms, 5 baths, and 4,100 square feet over the summer. It was built in 1965 but has been remodeled to look like new. It was formerly owned by record producer Ron Fair. (These MLS photos were taken before Nicole and Keith moved in, so this is his furniture, not theirs.)
Come on in and take the tour!
Kidman and Urban were married in June of 2006.
Earlier this year they sold their home in Nashville that Keith had lived in before marrying Nicole. It was on the market for $2.45 million, but Im not sure how much it eventually sold for. Here are some photos of it:
What do you think? Do you like the house in Beverly Hills or Nashville better? For more information about the Nashville house, go to Big Time Listings.
In July, the couple welcomed their first baby, a girl named Sunday Rose. On The View, Nicole said that the doctors had given her a 2% chance of getting pregnant and carrying the baby to term. Gotta love a miracle baby (I have a couple of them myself!).
Nicole showed the first photo of her 4-month old daughter when she appeared on Oprah last week, promoting her new film Australia.
Has anyone seen Australia yet? Ive heard its a bit too long and drawn out, but Ill see it just for Hugh Jackman!

Kelly Clarkson Lists Her Nashville Home

The Real Estalker alerted us to the fact that Kelly Clarkson, the first American Idol winner, is on the move. Clarkson has listed the Nashville home she bought in 2007 for $1.49 million. The Real Estalker covered this home in April 2008 so we can do a little compare and contrast with the listing pictures. It looks like, given the current very staged decor, Clarkson has already moved on but not before she changed some of the landscaping, added white plantation shutters, darkened the hardwood floors and went a little crazy with the paint selections. Practically every room is a different vivid color. Clarkson also upgraded the kitchen with green cabinets and new stainless steel appliances. Clarkson has listed the home for $1.449 million which means she will take a loss on the home.
