Giovan and Chloe have embraced their downtown converted loft for all its natural light and a spacious floor plan. Using a bit of creativity and elbow grease, these two have creatively added DIY charm to their home by building their own closet and coffee table. Their style is a mix of vintage and estate sale chic put to good use in an urban loft.
Chloe, a fashion designer and Giovan, a musician, both have a knack for finding random throwaways and refurbishing them into useful household products or decor. They were able to fit in a formal dining room table, using an old church pew for seating and they found an old card catalog filing cabinet and added a table top with legs to create the perfect coffee table. I love their personal touches like the DIY closet, designed to show off their clothing and accessories, all the family photos and the design detail of red paint everywhere. Together this newly married couple is embracing the idea of their dream loft and they are not afraid of color and texture in their design. Moses, their adorable puppy, has the run of the house and plenty of room to play. I believe they've found a wonderful space to call home.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: Eclectic Urban Vintage
Inspiration: We wanted to live in a place where we could build on the existing history of the unit, and combine both of our personal styles to create a welcoming, comfortable, and inspiring home.
Favorite Element: We are both drawn to the natural light thats let in by the large windows and the openness created by the high ceilings and open floor space
Biggest Challenge: Our unit was originally an office space, which means no kitchen, no shower, and only a small coat closet. Since we loved the layout the owner added a kitchen and a shower for us, but we still had the question of where to hang our clothes...so we built our own closet.
What Friends Say: Your place feels like home.
Biggest Embarrassment: Because of its size and shape, our shower has been called a rocket ship.
Proudest DIY: The closet!
Biggest Indulgence: The first furniture purchase we made together was from an estate sale for the Armoire and Vintage TV, they were our most expensive items, but they really set the tone for our whole loft.
Best Advice: If you have an idea, go for it!
Dream Sources: Thrift Stores, Estate Sales, Curbside Pickup, Downtown LA.
