Making its way onto the housing market in recent days is a rustic
Pomfret, Connecticut estate owned by none other than actress Rene Zellweger. Zellweger, who has two Academy Awards to her name and has appeared in such blockbuster flicks as
Bridget Joness Diary,
Jerry McGuire and
Cold Mountain,
is asking $1.5 million for the rural home that borders the Quinebaug River.
The actress originally acquired the vacation retreat back in 2004, paying $1.3 million. She has invested a considerable amount of time and energy to update the estate in Pomfret, which Zellweger
refers to as the embodiment of the old-fashioned American small town.
The property boasts a number of various buildings and structures on the premises (guest cottage, barn, helicopter pad, etc.), underscored by a 3,463-square-foot Federal-style Colonial main home known as the Cotton Tavern, built in 1770. Modern amenities have been added to the property, but the original country charm of the three-bedroom home remains, with Colonial-style windows, wood-burning fireplaces and exposed wood beam ceilings running throughout. Other property highlights include a generous master bedroom with a suite of closets, library with dark-wood finishes and built-in bookcases, media room, country kitchen and a large screened-in sun porch. The backyard and its many acres include a wealth of lush foliage, rolling hills of grass fields and woodland areas.
